Curves

  1. Cylinder

    1. Create a square brush and activate the menu Curve -> Cylinder.
    2. Now the cylinder will appear inside your brush. You can see the mesh through the brush.

    3. Deselect all and delete the square brush. Now select the cylinder and press v for vertices mode. Small green and pink spots will appear. You can edit the position of these points and therefore have an influence of the shape of it. Now you can make 90° cylinders or other stuff. Depends on what you want to build.

This kind of patch is often used in combination with jump pads like in the map The Camping Grounds (q3dm6).

  3. Bevel

Create a brush and activate the menu Curve -> Bevel.

  5. Simple Patch Mesh

    1. Create a brush. Choose the right axis where the patch should be created. Then press shift+p or go to curve -> simple patch mesh.
    2. A small window appears: The more complex shape u want to create, the higher values you need! Press v after that and you'll what I mean.
    3. The editing with the vertex points is the same as above.

Some mappers use them for creating small terrains but I wouldn't. Hmm, you can give them the shape you want.

Here I use the patch mesh for a curved edge in amt-fs3.

There is a couple of caps you can use.

    4. Select your cap.
    5. Note that a cap will be created on both sides of the patch! Delete the one you do not need or if u need both, delete nothing.

The pink ones show you the different types of caps.

  7. Texture alignment

If you tried to create the examples I described above, you have seen when creating the caps at the latest: Textures never fit when creating patches.

    1. Select a patch with an unaligned texture and press s.
    2. Now a small window appears: the surface inspector. For patches, the CAP, Set, Natural and Fit buttons are important:

    3. Now it is important what kind of patch you selected before: A Cap or a normal Curve!
    4. Texturing caps by pressing the caps button.(most of the times: press it twice)
    5. For all other patches use the natural button!
    6. If you want to rotate your texture or even align it better, press shift+s. The patch properties window appears and you will find out more.
  8. Examples

    1. Rounded corners

Prevent players from getting stuck and make corners round with bevels.
